Waterloo teacher resigns after "sniper rifle" social media post

WATERLOO, Iowa -- The Waterloo teacher who referenced a sniper rifle in connection with a teenage climate change activist has resigned.

The school district says Waterloo West High School teacher Matt Baish, who was placed on administrative leave last week, has stepped down.

Baish made the sniper rifle comment on Facebook in response to 16-year-old Swedish activist Greta Thunberg's visit to Iowa City earlier this month.

Thunberg has stirred controversy in her direct and blunt approach to calling for climate change environmental protection.
