Tests confirm Marshalltown body is missing Mason City woman

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa- Tests on a body found in a Marshalltown field confirm the body is that of a woman reported missing in March.

The woman's body was found Monday morning in a field just east of Walmart (2800 block of South Center Street).

Police say preliminary information suggested the body was 32-year-old Michelle Marie Grommet, of Mason City. Grommet was reported to the Marshalltown Police Department as a missing person on March 22.

The cause and manner of death have not yet been determined, pending final autopsy results. Police do not suspect foul play in Grommet’s death.

The Marshalltown Police Department and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation continue to investigate the Grommet missing person case. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and the Mason City Police Department have also assisted with this investigation.
