Crews battle weekend fire at International Paper

Cedar Rapids fire officials are working to determine a cause after flames broke out at an International Paper Co. facility, Sunday afternoon.

Fire officials headed to 4600 C Street Southwest around 12:20 p.m. after a report of smoke in the paper milling stations. Officials said in a news release they later found flames inside the structure amongst the machinery.

Firefighters were able to quickly knock down most of the flames. They next started removing smoldering paper products, which took around three hours to complete.

Though the cause has yet to be determined, officials don't believe the fire was intentional.

No injuries were reported.
