Meghan Markle's estranged half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., was arrested early Friday (January 11) morning for driving under the influence of alcohol, TMZ reports.

The 52-year-old, who was allegedly visibly intoxicated, was pulled over by Oregon State Police around 1:30 a.m. and taken into custody after he failed a field sobriety test. His dad, who is also Meghan's father, Thomas Sr., told TMZ, "My son has a serious problem and he needs help, and I hope he gets it." Thomas Jr. was previously arrested in January 2017 for holding a gun to his then-girlfriend's head during a drunken fight.

Thomas' recent arrest comes just days after he revealed he's invited both Meghan and Prince Harry to his upcoming wedding. "I think our wedding will bring the family closer together," he told DailyMailTV. "It’s hopeful that if Meghan and Harry came and my father, Meghan and Harry could spend some time together with him and that would be good." He continued: "[The wedding] would be a perfect time for Meg to get together with my dad – who is her father as well – and just put all the past behind everybody and move on and be a closer family again."

Thomas and Meghan's relationship has been rocky, to say the least, for years. Thomas, who was not invited to the royal wedding, was an extremely vocal critic of Meghan's marriage to Harry. He even wrote a public letter addressed to the Duke that slammed Meghan and told him not to marry her. "As more time passes to your royal wedding, it became very clear that this is the biggest mistake in royal wedding history," Tom wrote in his handwritten letter shared by InTouch days before Meghan and Harry's wedding. "Meghan Markle is obviously not the right woman for you." He added, amongst other things, that she is a "jaded, shallow, conceited woman that will make a joke of you and the royal family heritage."
