Government Shutdown could affect Iowa beer

The shutdown could affect how you get your beer, wine and liquor, especially if it's made in another state.

Iowa Brewing Company is trying to start selling its beer in Illinois. But it's still waiting for the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau to approve the labels on the bottles that'll be sent there.

This only needs to happen for alcohol that's distributed across state lines.

Illinois is the first state outside Iowa where Iowa Brewing's beer will be sold.

"We're excited about it. We think the people of Illinois certainly respect the Iowa brand, and we're anxious to get them our beer," Craig Stephan with Iowa Brewing Company tells KCRG-TV.

Stephan said this approval process usually only takes a few weeks. But the shutdown and some back and forth with the Tax and Trade Bureau have dragged it out for a couple months.
