Two firefighters injured in Grinell blaze

Crews responded to a fire at El Molcajete in downtown Grinnell Monday morning.

The Grinnell Fire Department responded to the fire on the 900 block of Main Street around 6 a.m.

Firefighters, Grinnell police, and Iowa State Patrol evacuated apartments nearby the building with the fire.

Chief Daniel Sicard with the Grinnell Fire Department says the building was a one-story commercial building with two-story apartments over the commercial buildings adjoined to each side.

Soon after crews arrived, a fire in the roofline began and part of the roof collapsed.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the original fire building, but many downtown buildings had smoke spread to them.

The Gilman, Malcom, Kellogg, Searsboro and Brooklyn Fire Departments and Midwest Ambulance assisted at the scene.

Authorities say two firefighters were treated for minor injuries from tending the fire.

The State Fire Marshall's Office is helping in the investigation.

Authorities say the fire doesn't appear to be suspicious.
