Slow start to flu season for Iowa, some states widespread FLU MAP

DES MOINES, Iowa - The flu season is getting a slow start in Iowa this year. 

There are flu cases reported across the country, but most states only seeing sporadic reports of flu.  Iowa has only 136 confirmed cases of flu this past week, and Iowa school absences from the flu at two-percent.

Three states do have widespread flu cases:  Georgia, Massachusetts, and California.

This year's predominant strain of flu so far is H1N1, and this year's flu vaccine seems fairly effective, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

Last was the worst flu season in years, with more than 80-thousand people killed nationwide.
