Governor Reynolds pardons two turkeys

Governor Kim Reynolds has pardoned two turkeys named "Henry" and "Washington."

On Tuesday, November 20, 2018, Gov. Kim Reynolds pardoned two turkeys, "Henry" and "Washington," before Thanksgiving.

On Tuesday Reynolds pardoned the two at Terrace Hill in Des Moines.

The two tom turkeys came from Wayland.

Iowa Turkey Federation President Russ Yoder said the two were named for the counties that he lives in and raises turkeys.

Yoder said his grandfather, Ivan Yoder, started raising turkeys more than 80 years ago.

“He, along with my father, uncles, aunts and neighboring turkey farmers helped grow the turkey industry in this area," Russ said.

Every year Iowa turkey farmers care for more than 12 million turkeys.
