Soules enters written guilty plea

Chris Soules has plead guilty to a charge of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious injury, an aggravated misdemeanor, related to an accident he was involved in on April 24, 2017.

If the plea agreement is accepted by the judge, the charge carries a maximum penalty of up to two years in prison and/or a fine between $625 to $6,250. Soules is allowed to request a deferred judgment or suspended sentence.

This is a reduction in the original charge of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident resulting in death, a class D felony, that Soules faced.

The plea is subject to approval by the Iowa District Court in Buchanan County before it becomes official. If the court rejects the plea agreement, then Soules will have an opportunity to withdraw his guilty plea at that time.

The court will decide after a pre-sentence investigation report has been filed by the First Judicial District Department of Correctional Services.

Soules must report to the department on or before Nov. 20 to begin the process. Sentencing is currently scheduled for Jan. 8, 2019.
