Driver Arrested after DBQ Car Fire

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG) - Police said the driver involved in a vehicle fire in Dubuque on Saturday is now facing charges.

Tyler Olmstead is charged with one count of reckless driving and two counts of assault while displaying a weapon.

Police said the East Dubuque, Ill. man bumped his pickup into a car in the parking lot of the Shopko located at 255 John F. Kennedy Road just before 3 p.m.

Pictures from the couple that owns the car show the truck's front bumper on top of the sedan's hood.

The car's owner confronted the 21-year-old. The man tells TV9 he and Olmstead exchanged "a few choice words."

Police said shortly after Olmstead displayed a box cutter. The couple described the blade as being around four inches long.

Police said Olmstead then got into his truck and crashed it into an electrical transformer, causing a fire.

Emergency crews took him to the hospital to be treated for injuries before police arrested him.
