MANCHESTER, Iowa (KCRG) - Cleanup is underway following flooding in Manchester and areas along the Maquoketa River.
Manchester Fish Hatchery (KCRG)
The river crested early Tuesday morning at 19.9 feet and forced the closure of Highway 13 through town.
On Tuesday, workers at the Manchester Fish Hatchery spent the morning sorting fish as a result of flooding. At the hatchery, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources raises trout for 13 streams in Manchester.
Flash flooding from nearby Spring Branch Creek caused nearly 200,000 trout to escape from their raceways, causing the smaller trout to be mixed in with their bigger trout.
Water levels receded late Tuesday morning and the DNR sayid they have to go through the task of sorting all their remaining fish and getting them back into the correct raceway. They believe the flooding could impact them for at least a month.
