AMES, Iowa- A vigil is planned tonight (Wednesday) at Iowa State University, to honor a student murdered Monday.
Twenty-two-year-old Celia Barquin Arozamena was found dead at the Coldwater Golf Links course Monday morning.
Collin Richards, a man who had been living in a homeless camp near the golf course, is charged with her murder.
Barquin Arozamena, was from Spain, and was a former star member of the Iowa State golf team. She won the Big 12 Championship in 2018. She had also recently won the European Amateur Championship, which garnered her an invite to the Women’s British Open.
She was named ISU's female athlete of the year, and was to be honored at this Saturday's football game. Now, there will be a pre-game tribute to her, and players will wear a decal of her initials on their helmets. Fan are asked to wear yellow, Barquin Arozamena's favorite color.
The vigil tonight is at 7 o'clock, on the north side of the Campaniel on the ISU campus.
