Semi Hits House, Causes Fire

MARION, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- The Linn County Sheriff's Office says a semi hit a house in Marion about 5:15 p.m. Monday. The crash happened at 1551 County Home Road in Marion causing a propane tank to catch on fire.

The sheriff's office says James Ward, 70 of Center Junction, was driving eastbound on County Home Road when for some reason he drove off into the north ditch and continued driving through a backyard. He hit a house and knocked it off its foundation. After hitting the house and a propane tank, the house and the semi caught on fire.

The sheriff's office says the owner of the home was outside and wasn't injured. The renter of the home was inside but got out safely.

Ward was injured but refused medical treatment. Deputies cited him and released him from the scene.
