MARION, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- More than 450 Iowans will die from pancreatic cancer this year, according to the American Cancer Society. Sunday, hundreds walked in Linn County to raise awareness of the disease.
It was the eighth-annual Lustgarten Walk. People started the three-mile walk Sunday morning at Thomas Park in Marion.
One hundred percent of the money raised goes toward cancer research. Organizers said the walk is also a way to unite the community, and bring families together who know someone fighting cancer.
"There is a networking, they can do they. I have survivors that come because it is possible to survive this - which is awesome because I love that," said Marlene Lenoch.
Pancreatic cancer is tough to beat, according to the American Cancer Society. It has has a five-year survival rate of only eight percent.
