CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG TV9)- Opening statements will begin Tuesday morning in the first degree murder trial of a Marion man accused of killing an ex-girlfriend.
Greg Davis, 29, is accused of stabbing Carrie Davis more than two dozen times last September. Despite sharing a last name, Greg Davis and Carrie Davis were not married or related.
The defense has told the court they will offer either an insanity or diminished responsibility defense. That means they won’t dispute Greg Davis killed his ex-girlfriend. Rather, they will claim he wasn’t fully responsible.
Police found the body of Carrie Davis in early October of 2017 rolled up in a carpet in a utility trailer.
Investigators said Davis admitted taking the body to a vacant home owned by his parents.
Jury selection took all day Monday before wrapping up late in the afternoon. The trial is expected to last about a week.
