Cleanup Continues after Dutchess Fire

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- Fire investigators are still looking into what may have started a fire this morning on Center Point Road NE.

Chris Gray, the general manager of Duchess Cleaners, came in around 5 a.m. to start his shift when he noticed flames shooting out of the building.

He called the fire department and they told him they were already on their way.

Gray says the business has been in his family for over 40 years and people in Cedar Rapids have called the cleaners a staple in town.

"Maybe we take it for granted, we get up we go to work, every day we do what we need to do but just some of the folks we talked to this morning that have driven up to share their thoughts and feelings with us have said well Duchess has been kind of a landmark there, that's been the cleaners," says Chris Gray.

Some of Gray's customers have already stopped by to check on the manager and his family.

He says they were lucky the fire didn't spread and no one was hurt.

"The first thing my uncle said to me and my dad said to me and my aunt and you know my mom was like is Amy there this morning and no she wasn't thankfully, nobody was here this morning, so very fortunate you know, very thankful about that, our employees are our extended family for sure," says Gray.

If you had any clothing inside the building, you can file a claim at Duchess Cleaners' Boyson Road location.
