The Iowa Department of Transportation said a busy ramp to I-380 in Cedar Rapids will open again by Wednesday.
The roadwork near the Wilson Ave. interchange at Exit 18 has been ongoing since March 30.
Construction teams have worked to repair the bridge deck in the southbound lanes near Wilson Ave. It also forced the closure of the northbound on ramp from that road.
Cathy Cutler, a District Planner with the Iowa DoT said she was happy with how the project came together. The Iowa DoT split the lanes on the interstate for the first time- putting two lanes on one side, and one more on the other.
Cutler said they still have some finishing touches to complete, but it should not interfere with the flow of traffic.
"We need to still do some work in the median, some shaving of the dirt," Cutler said. "They'll do seeding. We need to reinstall the cable guard rail and other guard rail as appropriate. And then the northbound ramp can open, we're hoping yet this week."
Cutler said getting the project done before the fall was a success and basically all that the DoT has left to do is put on the finishing touches.
