Iowa added to pre-cut melon recall list

Iowa has been added to a list of eight states, under a recall of pre-cut melon, because of Salmonella infections.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports 60-people have gotten sick in multiple states, after eating the pre-cut watermelon, honeydew melon, cantaloupe, and fresh fruit medley products.

The products were distributed by Caito Foods in Indianapolis, and were sold in clear plastic, clamshell type containers at Costco, Trader Joe's Walgreens, Walmart, and Whole Foods.

The recall was first issued June 8th, and now applies to the following states:  Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, and Ohio.

The CDC is urging consumers not to eat the recalled products, and either throw out the products or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.

Retailers should not sell or serve recalled pre-cut melon products distributed by Caito Foods Distribution, Gordon Food Service, and SpartanNash Distribution.
