Volunteers Plant 25 Trees at Ely Park

ELY, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- Volunteers worked to plant 25 new trees at Ely City Park on Sunday, in honor of Earth Day. It's a collaboration with the City of Ely, Trees Forever and Alliant Energy.

Organizers say they chose Ely City Park because it's a fairly new park and is need of some trees.

Together, volunteers worked for a few hours to dig holes and plant 25 new trees. Some were tulip trees, others were spruce and birch trees.

Organizers say the trees will provide this park a lot of benefits, including shade for visitors.

"Beautification, carbon sequestration, it's going to absorb water pollution and water runoff," Aaron Brewer said.

This is just the start of Trees Forever "2018 Earth Week Blitz."
