PALO, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) - The Duane Arnold Energy Center invited the public to learn more about its nuclear plant Wednesday.
A 2017 report found that Iowa's only nuclear power plant, which is in Palo, operates safely.
The facility is likely to close in 2025 unless Alliant Energy extends its contract.
Wednesday's event was about openness, and allowing people to ask about the plant.
"It's our opportunity to talk to those folks that are interested in hearing how the plant is doing from an independent government agency that is assessing the performance," Branch chief Karla Stoedter.
Duane Arnold has been operating since 1975 and can power 600,000 homes a year.
