BREAKING: Crews Battle Fire in Waterloo

WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG TV9) --- The Waterloo Fire Chief says the first person out of the house at 1815 Commercial Street flagged down someone passing by and told them their family was inside.

Authorities got the call at 4:07 a.m.

Authorities say four people were taken out of the house. One of those people were rescued by ladder.

Three of those people were taken to local area hospitals and authorities say two of those were children and one was an adult. The Fire Chief says they are in critical condition.

The Police Chief says a number of pets were in the basement of the house. Some of the cats and dogs didn't make it out. Animal control is helping on the scene.

The house is considered a loss. There was heavy fire and smoke on the main level of the house.

A fire marshal is on scene continuing investigation.
