Neighbors Rally Around Swisher Fire Victims

posted by WMT News / KCRG-TV9 -

Fire crews arrived to a Swisher home covered in flames New Years Day. It happened on the 1500 block of Ridge Top Drive. That's about a mile south of Shueyville. Officials say everybody got out safe but the home is now a total loss. Thousands of people are now coming together to help the family.

Jennifer LaLonde says she is overwhelmed by the amount of support from people after the tragedy. The couple are staying with at a house down the street- where people have also been dropping off clothing donations for the family. One neighbor I spoke with today says he was there helping them salvage what belongings they have left because it's simply the right thing to do.

"I think it's important that everybody come together and help this family out because this is really unfortunate, especially during the holidays that something like this would happen so all the help the better," said Spencer Kiekhaefer.

The family is accepting donations to be dropped off at 1509 Ridge Top Drive. There is also a go-fund-me page set up for them here: https://www.gofundme.com/nqbt5j-lalonde-family-fire-fund
