School Merger Vote Scheduled

DECORAH, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- Voters in the Decorah and North Winneshiek School Districts will decide whether the two districts should merge.

Last year, we reported the school board for North Winneshiek voted to close the district. The board decided the district didn't have enough enrollment or money to justify keeping its kindergarten through eighth grade classes open.

This year, some people started a petition calling for the district to merge with Decorah.

The special election will happen in February. If it passes, North Winn will become part of the Decorah district in 2019.
