Hiawatha Man Faces Burglary Charges in Delaware Co.

DELAWARE COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- A Hiawatha man is facing charges after the Delaware County Sheriff said he broke into a building in Hopkinton.

The sheriff said about 10:20 a.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a report of a break in at the former Swiss Valley Creamery building in Hopkinton.

Burglars have broken into the building several times in the past to steal copper wire and other metals, according to the sheriff. It took several officers to secure the building because it is so large.

Officers found 44-year-old Christopher Hutchcroft inside the building and arrested him.

Hutchcroft faces charges of third degree burglary, possession of burglar tools, and driving while barred.

If convicted, he faces up to 8 years in prison and fines up to $15,625.
