Kinnick Funding on Great Pace

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) - The plan is to renovate the North End Zone in Kinnick Stadium. The goal - halfway there.

On Thursday the Kinnick Edge Campaign announced donors have already committed more than $14 million to the University of Iowa Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. It comes just nine months after it launched.

The campaign has a $25 million fundraising goal. Work will feature 1,600 premium seats, a family club room, an open-air concourse, a videoboard, as well as new concessions and restrooms.

The north end zone hasn't been updated since 1983. Crews will raze the area after Iowa's last home game against Purdue on November 18. Work is expected to be done before the start of the 2019 season.

In all the renovation comes with an $89 million price tag. It's completely funded by the same Department through private support, bonding and athletics revenue.

Some of the big donors come from across Iowa as well as far away as Nebraska and New Jersey.
