Charges Possible for Car in River

A 35 year-old mother could face criminal charges after driving her car into an icy Cedar River this past March with her two kids inside.

Cedar Rapids police wrapped up its investigation this week and forwarded it to the Linn County Attorney's Office to consider filing possible criminal charges, a police spokesperson confirmed Tuesday.

Cedar Rapids firefighters pulled out the woman and her 12-year-old and 1-year-old sons after their sedan went into the river at the Mohawk boat ramp on March 11.

None of the three were hurt but the woman remained in the hospital for several days afterwards.
