Hawkeyes Fall, 1-0, in Series Finale

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The University of Iowa softball team fell 1-0 at Maryland on Sunday in the weekend series finale. The Hawkeyes registered four hits, but left four runners on base in the contest.

The Terrapins completed the series sweep following wins on Friday (2-1) and Saturday (5-2).

Maryland pushed across the only run of the game when Anna Kufta sent a solo shot over the center field fence in the fourth inning.

The was a pitcher's duel otherwise. Sophomore Allison Doocy (9-7) allowed five hits in the contest. She gave up no walks, struck out six, and sent the Terrapins down in order in two of her seven innings pitched.

Terrapin starting pitcher Sydney Golden (8-10) got the complete-game win the circle. The senior did not allow a run on four hits. She struck out three and allowed no walks.

Sophomore Taylor Libby (2-for-3) led the Hawkeyes at the plate, registering two of Iowa’s four hits.

QUOTING HEAD COACH MARLA LOOPER

“Allison Doocy did a nice job today. She left one over the plate and they got a hold of it so you have to tip your hat. We just couldn’t get anything going offensively. We’re still struggling to make those adjustments.

“The schedule is never easy. If it was there wouldn’t be any point in playing it. That’s why we play the kind of schedule that we play.”
