Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Coming to Iowa City

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- NBA star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar will be giving a lecture at Hancher Auditorium on the University of Iowa's campus on March 25.

Abdul-Jabbar has spent 50 years as an athlete, writer, and activist in America. Abdul-Jabbar is NBA's all-time leading scorer and is a six-time NBA champion.

Abdul-Jabar has contributed to The Washington Post and Time Magazine, aside from releasing his own book in 2016.

Abdul-Jabbar serves as the chairman of his Skyhook Foundation, whose mission is to “Give Kids a Shot That Can’t be Blocked” by bringing educational STEM opportunities to under-served communities through innovative outdoor environmental learning."

The lecture is free and is sponsored by the Division of Student Life.

The lecture, titled "From Kareem to Kaepernick: A History of Political Activism in Sports," will be from 3-4 p.m. on March 25. Doors are set to open at 2:30 p.m.
