Hawkeyes Set 2 School Records on Day 1 at B1G Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The University of Iowa women's swimming and diving team set two school records on the opening night of the 2018 Big Ten Championships on Wednesday at the McCorkle Aquatics Center.

 

The Hawkeyes swam to a pair of school records in the 800-freestyle relay.  Sophomore Hannah Burvill took down Becky Stoughton's record with her lead leg, posting a time of 1:44.42, besting Stoughton's 1:45.47.

 

Sophomore Allyssa Fluit, senior Meghan Lavelle, and senior Carly O'Brien went on to finish with a time of 7:08.06, shattering the previous record of 7:12.49, which was set in 2014.  The relay finished eighth.

 

The Hawkeyes swam a season-best time to place eighth in the 200-medley relay. Seniors Jo Jekel and Shea Hoyt, sophomore Meghan Hackett, and senior Mekenna Scheitlin posted a time of 1:39.26 -- the third-fastest time in school history.

 

Iowa is in seventh place after the first day of competition with 88 points; Indiana is leading the championships with 118 points.
