Two Charged in Hy-Vee Thefts

DUBUQUE COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG-TV9) -- Police accuse two Chicago women of using stolen credit cards at several Hy-Vee stores, including two in Dubuque.

24-year-old Laketha Britton is charged with identity theft in Dubuque County. She made an initial court appearance Friday.

26-year-old Deyona Tucker has pleaded not guilty to identity theft charges and is scheduled to go to trial February 26.

Dubuque County prosecutors said the pair used the stolen credit cards in September at the Asbury Plaza Hy-Vee, and in August at the Dodge Street Hy-Vee.

Hy-Vee officials have told police a group has been using fraudulent credit cards since at least August to make purchases at stores in Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, Davenport, and other cities.

Authorities said the suspects would try to use damaged credit cards, which were declined. The suspects would then manually enter stolen credit card numbers.

Hy-Vee officials said the transactions amount to about $50,000 in losses.
