Iowa Rowing Announces 2017-18 Schedule

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa women's rowing team has released the 2017-18 schedule, announced UI head coach Andrew Carter. The schedule includes matchups with top competition from the Big Ten, the Pac 12, the Big 12, the ACC, and the Ivy League. "The schedule is really good," said Carter. "It's very intense with every weekend having teams that finished in the top 20 at the end of last season. It is, by far, the toughest schedule we've put together since I've been here. It's a lot of exciting programs and a huge challenge for our team, but it's necessary for this group to take the next step." Iowa kicks off the season with four events in the fall, including scrimmages with Big Ten rivals Indiana and Wisconsin on its home waters. The Hawkeyes close out the fall slate with a few crews at the Head of the Charles Regatta, while the majority of the team is at Kansas for the Jayhawk Jamboree. "We've kept the fall schedule pretty consistent and low-key, with the one exception being the Head of the Charles, which we send selected crews to," said Carter. "We try to keep the fall a training focused season, with a couple of competitions to help us measure our progress." The Hawkeyes have a scrimmages against Old Dominion and Southern Methodist University in February before officially opening their regular season at the Pac-12 Invitational on March 31. "I'm excited for every weekend. Every weekend is going to be a pretty intense outing," said Carter. "We open at the Pac-12 Invitational with three Pac-12 schools, all of which finished in the top-tier of their league last year." Iowa also has Big Ten matchups with Michigan and Michigan State and non-conference competitions against Princeton and Yale. The Hawkeyes conclude the regular season at the Longhorn Invitational hosted by Texas. "We finish off the regular season at the Longhorn Invite, which is going to have Texas, who are the 2017 Big 12 champions and finished fourth at the NCAA Championship, and reportedly some top competition out of the ACC and beyond," said Carter" It's going to be a stacked event as well.  There are no easy races for us this year." The Big Ten Championship is set for May 13 in Indianapolis. The NCAA Championship are slated for May 25-27 in Sarasota, Florida.
